The GTX 285 is what the GTX 280 should have been. In the industry, we call this a "performance kicker". It's faster, consumes less and is cheaper to produce - all the ingredients that buyers love. Yet, the little story is that NVIDIA could have made the GTX 280 be that good, but at the time, they didn't think that the Radeon 4870 would be so good and decided to spend time and resources elsewhere (hey, it's always easy to criticize in hindsight).

I am not a huge fan of what I call the "pink" technology, since women deserve to like more than one color and appreciate high end specs too. This new Motorola basic phone fits the stereotype: pink and regular specs. However, the design is subtle and elegant; in addition, the pink color is discreet and it has 3.5G. The Motorola PEBL Rose Bloom will be available in Korea from SK telecom for an undisclosed price. It features a touch sensitive external panel, a 2 MP camera, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Bluetooth and HSDPA. 100 handsets, including Sony Ericsson prototypes have been found in the apartment of a man accused of stealing from Sony Ericsson. He is not an employee, but was apparently a contractor for the firm. The estimated value of his stash is $90,000. One might think that he could have sold the phones to Sony Ericsson's competitors or simply on eBay as the launches become imminent. After all, a BlackBerry 8900 was sold for 17,000 recently. I wonder if he posted the photos on Flickr before being busted… [via gearlog via engadgetmobile]. We knew that Kenya was already home to the Obama beer, but now the Obama brand will also be used by to sell phones. The device itself is quite simple, but the back has the "Yes We Can" slogan with Obama at the top. Note that the 'O' letter is also where the camera is. The phone retails for $30 - in Kenya. This is a video that claims to show the G2 phone that runs on Android. To be honest, I can't say whether it is true or not, but we thought that this was an interesting video to share with you. At first view, there's nothing really groundbreaking, except that it's a good android demo. The phone itself is quite plain. What do you think? Hoax or not? Are you excited by an all-touch Android phone? Permalink: Android Dream G2 Videos? from Ubergizmo (US, FR) | Good deals | Hot: Palm Pre mini Review

The Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Extravaganza is over and it is time to get back to reality. Today, Gartner is revealing the harsh truth about PC makers. According to preliminary results from the renown analysts firm, the worldwide shipments totaled 78.1 million units, a 1.1 per cent increase from Q4 2007 which is the worst growth rate since 2002. As we all know, the growth driver for the holiday season was the netbook segment, which outpaced the mobile PC category growth.

PhoneArena claims that BestBuy will be the exclusive retail outlet for the Palm Pre (hear: In the U.S), in partnership with Sprint. The exclusivity is thought to last for 60 days, just like Sprint and BestBuy did with the Samsung Instinct. There is no official date, but we do know that the Palm Pre will hit the U.S and Europe sometimes between now and the end of June. As for the price, the best guess puts it at around $200 with a contract and $550 without a contract. Take a look at our mini-Review of the Palm Pre. It might be powered by a more powerful Atom 330 Processor, but MSI's NetTop D130 has one of the most unattractive design that we have seen from an established brand. It doesn't mean that it's a bad computer: it is quiet and can play DVD quite nicely, it would probably run some flavor of Media Center if it came with it. However, I'm not quite sure how good it is at recording one or more TV shows - which is key to the Media Center Experience. Oh and MSI claims that its 35W of power consumption can save you as much as $150 per year (at $0.06 / Kwh). Anyhow, there's no excuse for the MSI Wind maker to come up with such an ugly design. Can we get another PC case? Permalink: MSI NetTop D130 Needs a New Look from Ubergizmo (US, FR) | Good deals | Hot: Palm Pre mini Review

Gearlog has shot a cool video of the Panasonic aufo-focus (continuous focus would be more accurate) demo. Most cameras have a few points of focus and try to "guess" what your subject is. With this new Panasonic firmware, you can tap once on the screen to show what you want to focus on and the embedded software will continuously track the subject and keep it in focus. Now you can focus your attention on filming, rather than trying to keep the subject in focus - in theory anyway.
